The oldest continuously running lottery is the Staatsloterij, which was founded in 1726. The word “lottery” is derived from the Dutch word “lot”, meaning “fate.”

Some people play the lottery to win large amounts of money. But it is important to understand that lottery winnings have a huge tax impact. Many winners end up bankrupt within a few years.
